はじめまして。わたしはデービッドです。よろしくおねがいします。アメリカじんです。いまニューヨークからきました。でもわたしのホムタウンはフィラデルフィヤです。コロンビアのだいがくいんせいです。わたしにかいてください!

My interest in Japan goes way back. I was very interested in samurai and ninjas when I was a child. As I grew my interest never waned and I spent many years trying to figure out a way to get there. I was lucky enough to be accepted into the JET program after completing my undergraduate degree. I was not disappointed. In fact, my interest in Japan increased to the point where I decided to study it at the graduate level.

Unfortunately, I did not study while I was there. I spent all my time traveling and reveling in the culture as opposed to learning how to communicate correctly. The Japanese are wonderful hosts and were very accepting of my minimal Japanese skills. Now, however, I find myself wishing I had spent more time with the books (especially kanji).

Be that as it may, I'm enjoying my Japanese classes and looking forward to being able to understand the language of the culture I love.

After coming to the US, I found out that a lot of Americans like ninjas. Non of my friends talk about them, like or dislike them. So, let me ask you. What makes you like ninjas?? I'm just curious...:)

I'm not sure where my interest comes from. It's just kind of been there for a while. When my mother was pregnant with me, she and my father visited Japan. At the Daibuttsu in Nara they prayed for a son. My mother says that I have been drawn to Japan since birth because I have to thank the Daibuttsu for making me a boy. I did get to thank him, but I still want to go back!

I guess you were born to like Japan because of the Daibutsu! :)

I'd say that samurai kind of sparked my interest into the Japanese culture. I saw the move "The Last Samurai" sometime around the eighth grade and I've been interested ever since. That's awesome that you had the chance to live in Japan. You must have learned alot about the culture? I'm hoping that eventually I get the chance to study there. And the pokemon in my blog is Blastoise...you were close with Squirtle. He's highest evolved verion...basically Squirtle on steroids.
